I needed a real break and a good breath of fresh air far from the car horns in the south of Bali.
Munduk was exactly what I needed: green, green, and more green! When you enjoy a sunset in the mountains from a simple little terrace in a home stay with local charm, that's true happiness.
Waking up to the cockerels crowing and the sweet smell of a freshly prepared 'nasi goreng' gave me all the necessary energy for a day of easy walking. The waterfalls are incredibly imposing and gave me the freshness that I was searching for.
It was also on the side of the road in Munduk that I ate the best 'martabak'. It's a shame however that so many hotels are built there and hide the view over the mountains.
Magnificent! Munduk is a nature lover's dream. A place that's completely 'zen'. Not only is the scenery a stunning shade of green that you won't see elsewhere, the rice fields are also amazing. Then there's the typical architectural style, great food and numerous waterfalls that you can visit
If you head to the upper levels of Munduk, you'll get some superb views of Buyan Lake and the surrounding region.
Munduk is on high land, surrounded by countryside. If I had to choose one word to describe it, it would be 'green' in ode to its lush, abundant natural surroundings. The waterfalls are easy to find - just open your ears and follow the sound of running water!
What's more, you'll find a range of traditional lodgings that are both charming and affordable.
