Chele La is a pass located at an altitude of exactly 3988 metres . This pass separates the Paro Valley from that of Ha. Chele La Pass is a must-see for anyone travelling to Bhutan. On a clear day, the view of Mount Jomolhari, Bhutan's iconic mountain (reaching its highest point at more than 7000 metres) and the Tibetan border left me speechless. If you're lucky, you'll see another very high peak in the east, the Kangchenjunga, with an elevation of over 8,000 metres!
Don't miss the sunrise on Mount Jomolhari: to get there, we asked our guide to spend the night in the army's mountain refuge. It's located just an hour's walk from the pass. In the morning, we made for the abandoned little meditation hut to watch the sunrise. It sets the whole country ablaze. An unparalleled experience!
